BRO Mission Statement

The mission of the BRO shall be to coordinate the work of area churches, synagogues and civic groups in providing toys for children and families in need during the holidays

We recognize that play is the “work of children”, their method of exploring and learning about the world. The gift of new toys provide positive self worth to children and families and supplement the child’s learning, by developing child creativity during hours of imaginative play at home.
We do this work in our community with a spirit of service and cooperation, by providing meaningful opportunities for seniors, retirees and service minded individuals to give back to their community.
In addition we provide gifts of hope to new mothers, throughout the year, and gifts to senior citizens, during the holidays, served by area social service agencies. We do all of this without regard to race, sex, handicapping condition, age, sexual orientation, national heritage, ancestry or religion.

Gateway -Wheeler School

Today in the mail we received this colorful "thank you" from the students at the Gateway-Hubert Wheeler State School for the Severly Disabled in St.Louis, MO.

Gateway is one of the agencies we serve during the Christmas Holidays. The past two years we have filled the wish list for approximatey 75 children ages 10 - 21. The children have serious physical and cognitive limitations, and we have enjoyed providing gifts for their special needs.

Last years we provided trophies and stuffed animals for their Earth Day Event. This year we provided a variety of small toys and stuffed animals for their school wide Bingo Day.

It is an honor to assist the dedicated teachers and staff at the Gateway School.

"Wisconsin artist Jon Troast alternates between folky and funky. His smoky, David Gray–style vocals jump from sweet, spunky love songs to edgier, rhythmic explorations of life and responsibility."

"you’ll want to give Second Story a second listen, and a third, and fourth …"

-Performing Songwriter -

"Jon Troast possesses that indefinable something that separates the wheat from the chaff, folksinger-wise -- that je ne se quoi of sincerity, wit, melodicism and observational power that elevates these songs from folk-pop cliché and lands them squarely in the rich storytelling tradition of a David Wilcox or a James Taylor."

"Troast’s vocals have the throaty, lived-in sound of a James Blunt or John Ondrasik, with precise yet effortless phrasing that’s pitch-perfect for these songs."

-Daily Vault - www.dailyvault.com

Jon Troast’s soul is vibrantly alive, and his writing is filled with an appreciation for everything and everyone in his life. His warm, slightly raspy voice puts you right in the song, and even when he’s singing about something not so wonderful (for example, “Knock Down,” with its musings on social awkwardness), there’s something more philosophical about it than depressing. He’s a pure, honest, true folkie in his heart and soul. And he’s a pretty gifted guitar player, too."

A Call-to-Action: Post a Comment to Help Share the Magic of BEDTIME STORIES!
December 19th, 2008 by Diane N.

At First Book, we’re strong believers that every child deserves to know the magic of bedtime stories — and we know you are too.

Few movies celebrate that magic quite like Disney’s upcoming BEDTIME STORIES – an adventure comedy starring Adam Sandler as Skeeter Bronson, a hotel handyman whose life is changed forever when the bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to mysteriously come true.

In celebration of the film’s December 25 release, Disney Publishing Worldwide will donate up to 250,000 brand new books to First Book.

Will you do your part and share YOUR story?

Now through December 25, post a comment on First Book's Blog about a bedtime story or memory and, in your honor, Disney will donate one new book to a child in need – just for commenting!

It’s free, takes just a minute and will help make bedtime brighter for kids in need.

Thanks for your help — and don’t forget to buy a ticket on Fandango to see BEDTIME STORIES, opening in theaters December 25!
